In this groundbreaking study, the Bridgehead Collective team and I partnered with the Center for Generational Kinetics to explore America's perceptions of entrepreneurship, the gig economy, and direct selling. With a focus on statistical significance, the research represents a diverse sample of the population, yielding a 97% confidence level.

The results of the study were far from predictable, uncovering game-changing insights across 10 key categories: 

  • Perception of Industry and Channel

  • Recruiting and Prospecting

  • Motivations and Decision Criteria

  • Onboarding and Getting Started

  • Training

  • Compensation and Value Proposition

  • Recognition

  • Incentive Trips and Events

The data revealed that no two generations share the same motivations for staying in or leaving a business. In fact, the study found that relying on a historical positioning of the direct selling opportunity is no longer effective. Moving forward, our companies must recognize the shifting perceptions and generational differences, and adapt in creative and thoughtful ways. With these insights, businesses can develop a new roadmap to navigate the ever-changing landscape and thrive rather than struggle into the next decade.

Heather Chastain has deep, cross-functional expertise in growing and managing all facets of business operations.  She began her career in operations management but quickly expanded into marketing, sales, leadership development, and overall P&L responsibility for organizations ranging from start-ups to turnarounds, and well-established global brands, leading significant growth and expansion efforts.  She has had the privilege of working with some truly iconic companies like Tupperware, Arbonne, Shaklee and Rodan + Fields. Heather is passionate about combining data, research, experience, and a little bit of storytelling to help craft strategic solutions and drive needle-moving results.
